Overview
You may have come across this blog because you are looking for exciting events. Or because you would like to read about the experiences of other companies. Or maybe you’re looking for inspiration for events in your industry.
We want to give you the answer to why your company needs topic-specific events.
When most of us think of tech events, we probably think of Apple keynotes or similar big events that thousands and thousands of people around the world look forward to. Like-minded people meet, exchange ideas and experience the latest innovations live. The perfect breeding ground for networking and skill sharing. We thought: why not start small and see what happens?
The first Flutter Meetup in Braunschweig
Some time has now passed since we organized the very first Flutter Meetup in Braunschweig and thus the first speaker event at our office. Before it took place, we asked ourselves whether anyone would come and who would come, whether we were more likely to be discouraged or encouraged to host further events afterwards and whether it would ultimately be worthwhile for us to host everything at our office.
At the end of the day, there were ten of us, four from our team and our speaker Damian Bast plus our friend and co-host Martin Appelmann, a freelance app developer. You might think that 4 external participants are not many. But looking back, the evening couldn’t have gone better for us and was a complete success.
Damian Bast, independent Flutter coach and consultant, went through a special use case from his work with Flutter with us, while we all listened intently and asked one or two questions during the presentation.
4 people who came across us and the event – that’s 4 people who got to know us as people, as young entrepreneurs and passionate developers.
We had valuable and interesting conversations with these previously unknown people, they interacted with us and the topic in a lively way during the presentation and we learned a lot with and above all from each other. At the end, there was pizza for everyone and we ended the evening in a relaxed atmosphere.
Afterwards, we were 100% sure that the Flutter Meetup was the starting signal for many more events. And now the next event is already coming up.
The benefits of hosting small events
Looking back, where do we see the opportunities for growth and valuable learning through small events? And what are the advantages over large events?
- The most interesting encounters are made with people and their philosophies in your own region, which you can cultivate well due to the local proximity
- There is the opportunity to work with these people in the future or to merge companies through joint projects
- There is enough time and space for any question or suggestion if there are not several hundred people in the audience
- You can exchange ideas with like-minded people in peace, give each other tips and simply talk shop together
- Over time, you can build up your own local tech community, which in turn will continue to provide inspiration for further events
- You don’t need a strict schedule to get from one talk to the next
- You can produce engaging content for your social media channels and publish reciprocal shout-outs, which in turn will give you more reach and new potential attendees
Upcoming Events in Braunschweig
We are already looking forward to the upcoming event in Braunschweig on June 27th, where we will be talking to speaker Paul Köhler and co-host Martin Appelmann about starting a business based on Flutter and Serverpod. If you are interested, have a look here:
